Raccoon

This raccoon's been showing up on our deck lately, eating out all (and I mean all) the catfood we leave outside. Starting today we left dogfood out because they're apparently better for raccoons. Try to make sense of that.

Just a note that I added more stuff on eBay today.

Just a note that I added more things on eBay, including comic books, DVDs, cartoon originals, and a John Lennon action figure...for reals.

Have a happy bidding!

eBay

Since I'm going to Burbank this July, I decided it would be a good time to sell some stuff for some extra spending money (and an excuse to make some room here).

So I'm putting stuff up on eBay, including cheap DVDs, comic strip originals, back issues of the AAEC's publication, and more. Go here (I will add more stuff later)

Greg Ford

Animator and animation historian Greg Ford just about lost everything when his apartment collapsed due to electrical fire. Greg and his partner Ronnie are OK, but they could really use help now.

Mark Kausler has the details on his blog.

BOOK REVIEW: THE KNIGHT LIFE - CHIVALRY AIN'T DEAD

THE KNIGHT LIFE: CHIVALRY AIN'T DEAD
Keith Knight
Hachette Book Group, 2010
211 pages

Keith Knight made news in the cartooning group when it was announced that he's launching a daily strip. Keith is known for his subversive K Chronicles strip so fans speculated on how tame the strip would be.

The daily Knight Life is tame in comparison to his weekly strip, but it still manages to bring in satirical bite into the pop culture and current events. The strip has been running for over two years and it was recently collected into a book.

This book collects roughly the first sixteen months of the strip. It's similar to the Pearls Before Swine treasuries in that many strips comes with creator commentary and that all the Sundays are in color.

It's quite evident that even with the toning down for the daily newspapers there were still strips that have been edited for syndication. Those strips are presented the way the cartoonist intended, followed by a note on what got changed. There is even one instance where an entire strip was replaced with another; both strips are included in the book.

Overall this is a good book to have. The printing is top notch and alot of the strips are great. This has over an year and half worth of strips, so there's quite a few to go through, too.

Hakushon Daimao

One of my favorite animes is an old series produced by the Tatsunoko Studios (Speed Racer, etc.) called Hakushon Daimao. It was a very comedic series about a fat genie who would grant wishes to anyone who sneezed near the bottle he resides in, only to mess up.

It was dubbed in English by Saban as "Bob in the Bottle", but it only aired in Canada.

Here's one of the episodes in its original Japanese. No subtitles, sorry.
