At the Zü part 1

At the Zü is a great comic that nobody has ever heard of. The strip was by Ron Ruelle and it was distributed by Creators Syndicate from 11/20/1995 to 6/20/1998, but was later continued as a weekly webcomic, retitled "Darwin and Co" at this point, until 2000. Roughly 30 newspapers ran it altogether.

I've written about it before so I won't go into too much, but I found a bunch more strips in the Google News Archive and I couldn't bear to not post some. In a similar manner to the Jack & Tyler posts I did, I'm going to post a bunch of Zu strips for the rest of the week. Enjoy.

FoxTrot - lost strips

The next batch of Jack & Tyler is below this post...

Anyway, FoxTrot.com was a different website years ago than what it is now. For one thing, it had the extras page where they posted some of the proto-FoxTrot strips that Bill Amend sent to syndicates back in the '80s. Thanks to the wonders that is Internet archive, I've managed to find some.

To start off with, here's a sample of a comic strip Bill sent to syndicates before "FoxTrot". It was called "Bango Ridge" and it was about a explorer who was in a jungle full of talking animals. All the syndicates rejected it, but one encouraged him to come up with another.

With that note, Bill came up with the early version of "FoxTrot".

This is probably the only time you'll see Jason without his glasses.

Here are some strips with strange Bloom County-like designs.

At this point, Bill was getting a hang of his style. This is pretty identical to the version that was published in newspapers.
